Day 01 – NEGOMBO

On arrival in Sri Lanka you will be met and assisted by our airport representative, who will direct you to your very own chauffeur who will transfer you to the fishing village of Negombo. Once you check in at your hotel relax and recover from any jet lag. If you have spare time your chauffeur will introduce you to the sights and sounds of Negombo. Negombo is situated by the shores of a lagoon and was once a trading port for the Portuguese and the Dutch. It is an ideal place for those who want quick access to and from the airport. Attractions in the city include the old Dutch fort gate built in 1672 and now a part of the prison, the Dutch Canal which was then a supply route to the Dutch administration, old churches and fishing villages.

Day 02 – NEGOMBO –POLONNARUWA – HBARANA

After breakfast, set off from coastal Negombo to experience the inland delights of Sri Lanka. Relish this picturesque journey as you pass Kurunagala’s towering Lord Buddha statue upon a rock, the rice paddy fields and more. after sightseeing tours continue to Visit polonnaruwa ancient city (10th-12th century A.D), The modern meuseum,parakrama samudra (Gigantic reservoir made by king Parakrama the great), Statue of king Parakrama, Library shrine, Palace of king Parakramabahu, The council chamber, The kumara pokuna (pond used by royal family with the water flowing system), Shiva temple, Thuparama shrine room and the glitering statues, Atadage,Hetadage, Vatadage, Stone book, Rankoth vehera, Alahana monestry complex, Gal vihare (Master peace of stone carving),

Thivanka image house, Lotus pond and a wood carving factory to see how they make natural colours out of herbs.(The skilled carvers and wood found in this area freely).and

Proceed to Habarana, Habarana is a popular tourist destination for safari lovers as it is the starting point for safaris in the nearby Habarana jungle. This is heavily populated by elephants. Elephant back riding is also an attraction in this small city. The area has some of the best hotels in the country and the greenery and wild life has added value, making the location attractive for tourists

Day 03 – SIGIRIYA

Early morning Climb Sigiriya rock fortress built in the 5th century A.D by king Kasyapa who was a patricide (Sigiriya Claimed as the 8th wonder in the world, 370 meters above the sea level) , see the water garden, bolder garden, world famous Paintings, Mirror wall, Lion’s paws, The swimming pool on top and back to hotel to have breakfast.

This is perhaps the most fantastic single wonder of the island. It is also known as Lion Rock because of the huge lion that used to stand at the entrance the fortress. Within its triple – matted defense the huge rock rises almost to a sheer height of 500ft.

We have an interesting excursion available in Sigiriya, in the form of a traditional bullock cart ride and village tour. This maximum three hour program is designed for you to experience the real traditional Sri Lankan rural village style, where you will travel in a Bullock cart to a rural village through lush green paddy fields where you will be served tea and ” juggery” along with lunch made to authentic Sri Lankan style. Traditional cooking methods, and a visit to a paddy field to see how the local farmers protect their crops from the wild animals, will be demonstrated and toddy tapping is a special thing in the village culture. Visitors can get this experience in his village tour. This excursion will be a traditional canoe ride in a lake in Sigiriya. The finale of this excursion has a tuk tuk tour back to the starting point. Total tour is may 8Km ride.Highly recommended as a “must do” activity when you are in Sigiriya to get feel the real Sri Lanka.

Day 04 – SIGIRIYA – MATHALE – KANDY

After breakfast leave Sigiriya to Visit Dambulla cave temples (Built by King Walagamba in the 1st century B.C with 22000 square feet’s of ceiling paintings), Dambulla city also boasts to have the largest rose quartz mountain range in South Asia, and the Iron wood forest, or Namal Uyana. Ibbankatuwa prehistoric burial site near Dhambulla cave temple complexes is the latest archaeological site of significant historical importance found in Dambulla, which is located within 3 kilometers of the cave temples providing evidence on presence of indigenous civilisations long before the arrival of Indian influence on the Island nation

After sightseeing tours continue to the town of Kandy. En route visit a Spice Garden in Matale to see the different spices, Which Sri Lanka is famous for. You will be introduced to different spices and show how some of these spices are grown, processed and you can learn of their medicinal healing properties and how to use them in your day to day needs. Used worldwide in many medicines, the healing powers of spices have been respected from the time of the Pharaohs and Chinese Dynasties, while our herbs are used in Ayurvedic concoctions.

Afterward head on to the bustling hill capital of Kandy. Declared a UNESCO world heritage site since 1988 it was the last capital of the Sinhala Kings. You will check in at your hotel on arrival and once you are rested, continue on to your tour of Kandy. In the evening you will visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic, and later enjoy the Kandyan Cultural show at the Kandyan Arts & Cultural Centre. The show features the graceful and rhythmic dancers and drummers culminating in an impressive fire walking display.

Day 05 KANDY – PINNAWALA – RAMBODA

 

After breakfast you will explore the closest city of Kandy, surrounded by greenery and the great Mahaweli River. Kandy is also well known as the centre of Buddhism. At your convenience, become acquainted with the city of Kandy, pay your respects to the temple which holds Lord Buddha’s tooth relic and take a guided stroll through the lush Royal Botanical Gardens of Peredeniya for an introduction to tropical flora.

En-route visit to the Pinnawala Elephant orphanage. This orphanage was set up by the government to take care of baby elephants lost or abandoned in the wild.

After sightseeing tours continue to visit the famous Ramboda waterfall, Ramboda Falls is 109m high and 11th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. Altitude of the falls is 945m above sea level.

Day 06 RAMBODA – NUWARAELIYA

After breakfast leave Ramboda to the heart of Tea Country, Nuwara Eliya (1868 meters above the sea level), Nuwara Eliya supposed to be one of the coolest places in the Island, but it is really just like an English spring day, although the temperature does drop at night. All around Nuwara Eliya you will see evidence of the British influence, houses like country cottages or Queen Ann style mansions.

Welcome to Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka’s tea growing centre and enroute visit a tea factory. During the drive relish the endless views of tea carpeted valleys and the bright flash of female “tea pluckers” in their pimento, fuchsia and cerise saris. Enjoy a guided stroll of Nuwara Eliya town, pass the 18-hole golf course, the colonial member’s only Hill Club and English styled country homes.

Day 07 NUWARAELIYA – YALA

After breakfast we leaving for the Nanu Oya rail station, we wil take the train to Ella, Ella is a beautiful small sleepy town on the southern edge of Sri Lanka’s Hill Country. It’s situated in the middle of beautiful countryside, with small vegetable plots in the valleys, tea plantations on the hill slopes and forests on the tops. You can enjoy the picturesque scenery in the hill country. After your Lunch leave from the pleated hills of Ella descend to the jungles of Yala. En route visit Rawana Waterfalls, a sight to behold with a scenic backdrop of mountains and valleys, Ella gap, Mini Adams peak.

The Yala National Park is famous for the elusive leopard and has one of the highest densities of leopards in the world. The sloth bear and Asian elephant that are also part of Sri Lanka’s Big Five can be spotted. With some good luck you will witness all these creatures over Morning jeep safari accompanied by a naturalist guide.

Day 08 YALA- MIRISSA

After Breakfast leave for Yala for safari tour at Yala National Park. Yala West National Park is located to the southeast of the island and is well recognized as one of the best parks in the world to observe and photograph leopards. The park covers an area of over 100,000 hectares and its main physical features are sand dunes, lagoons, dry river/stream beds, rocky outcrops and scrub/thorn forest. There is also a substantial elephant population along with spotted deer, sambar, wild buffalo, sloth bear, jackal, mongoose, pangolin and crocodiles. The bird life comprises over 120 species, and ranges from lesser flamingos to paradise flycatchers, crested hawk eagles, and black bitterns.

Day 09 MIRISSA – COLOMBO AIR PORT

Rise early morning and leave for Mirissa, a small sandy tropical beach village which boasts some of Sri Lanka’s most stunning sunsets and sunrises. It is also on the worlds ‘Top Hot Spots’ for Sperm and Blue whale sightings. In the warm Indian Ocean you can see Blue whales,Sperm whales,Common dolphins, Bottlenose dolphins, Spinner dolphins, Risso’s dolphins and Striped dolphins. Take the boat from the fishery harbour out to sea. Blue Whales in concentrations not seen elsewhere in the world would be the highlight. After seeing the blue whales, your naturalist will take you further out to sea to look for sperm whales. Don’t forget your camera to catch their tails flip.
